If you’ve ever wished technology would read your mind,  programmer DAN GILKERSON is getting a step or two closer. He’s currently working on a jukebox project ( aka the Beebox) for fellow creatives of the HIVE Collective that will be tailored to our musical tastes. Software will be crafted for our workspace with the following capabilities:

-Detects who’s at theHIVE to play their favorite beats

-Voting system to skip past songs

-Stream music directly from personal workspace.

Dan believes in evolving software to continually meet needs that are discovered. And we believe it’s going to be amazing.

untitled3theHIVE’s own DENISE COLESTOCK, independent interior designer is making Project FiND happen by working with Rebuild-the San Diego Chapter of Architects for Humanity.  This competition challenges designers and artists from all fields to submit a proposal for a project that raises awareness of sustainability, efficiency and social responsibility. Denise is pushing for projects that address community and environmental needs. We’re loving the fusion of these concepts and have already sparked the imaginations of a few HIVE creatives.

In August, HOLIDAY MATINEE teamed up with TOMS Shoes for their 10-year anniversary Cause for Drinks benefit. They asked 11 San Diego artists to decorate a pair of TOMS-and this is what they got back. Dave Brown of HM brought the installation to theHIVE for our Pollinate section, noting that it “exemplifies the spirit of doing good and having fun.” We think they’re just plain awesome-come check them out.

Adding a little color to our lives

The Yard just got way more interesting. We adopted Morgan Blair‘s “Rainbow Road” and couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to put it up publicly here at the HIVE. Morgan was the first participant in SEZIO’s Artist Exchange Program. SEZIO brought her all the way here from the Brooklyn, NY to live and create in San Diego for one week. Morgan is a recent grad from RISD and an awesome illustrator / fine artist. She created   “Rainbow Road” during the week she stayed at the Luce Loft here in East Village. Feel free to stop in and check out the piece and keep an eye on SEZIO for more Artist Exchanges coming soon.
