screen-shot-2010-06-24-at-53950-pm1The mastermind behind HIVE’s 241 mural is San Diegan artist Mike Maxwell, who his pushing his way to the top of the art world with his experimental pieces.  The man leads a busy life displaying art up the Cali coast and across the seas.  His innovative art is prominently featured in shows from Japan to London.  Although his signature look includes stone-blue faces and detailed twisted hair, his works continually demonstrate growth in his abilities.  From album covers to murals, Maxwell is flourishing in a competitive industry and has clearly found success. Kudos to Mike.

Hanging with Sezio

June 22nd, 2010 | HIVEr | No Comments »

picture-10Our good friends at Sezio have adorned our walls with some awesome handiwork from local San Diego artists. Over the past two years, they’ve handpicked artists and featured them on their site. In celebration of their 2nd birthday, they gave each one a block of birch wood and the result is an installation here at theHIVE. They’re hosting a viewing tomorrow from 6-9  supporting both Sezio and the artists. If you’re in the East Village area, drop by to check out the collection.

The Creative Route

June 22nd, 2010 | HIVEr | No Comments »

picture-9Look what we came across-Park2Park: a shuttle service that carts you around the parks (North & South) and two of the heights (Normal & University) during night hours! We love these neighborhoods so it’s nice to see that someone got smart and created a little transit system. Nice to see San Diegans take initiative.

Here’s why we like it:
- It’s cheap-$5 for an all night pass
- It makes for a happier DD
- It’s a good way to see our neighborhoods

A day in theHIVE

June 17th, 2010 | HIVEr | No Comments »

hive_colabThis is what we’re about: collaboration. Once people warm up to the idea of working in a communal office, they see the benefits of working alongside others. Today we found several of our own mixing it up for some inter-company idea swaps. Creatives who otherwise might not have met group up for whiteboard sessions, a piece of good advice or chatting up a new venture over lunch. Love it!

Green Thumbs

When we first started out, we had a lone cactus at our concierge desk, but it looks like the green trend is catching on. Check out these coworking companions all around theHIVE. It’s nice to see some life in our urban setting.

HIVE World Cup Culture

The World Cup has a crazy way of uniting nations while pitting them against each other. It looks like two of our Hivers decided to represent their respective countries and found each other along the way. As it turns out, Alan now has bragging rights since Mexico took out France this morning. Au revior!

SD Gets Entrepreneurial

June 15th, 2010 | HIVEr | No Comments »

coworkers_fullIt looks like San Diego is getting a new reputation-and we mean that in a good way. Apart from being a tourism hub for beach-goers, we’re getting some recognition for our innovative side. Our city has a good bunch of creatives and entrepreneurs and Under30CEO blog gave theHIVE a shout out for supporting those types. Great to see America’s Finest City among other forward-thinking destinations.

sezio2yearLong time friends of theHIVE, Sezio are turning two this week. We’ve seen these guys grow up and establish themselves around San Diego promoting art and music. No birthday would be complete without a party, so this weekend they’ve orchestrated a block party starting at Subtext Gallery, then on to the Casbah. Come out and help celebrate!

Here are the specs.

Catch Up w/ Heightn

June 8th, 2010 | HIVEr | No Comments »

Heightn-representing our athletic side here at theHIVE-has their first video up on their site. Looks like this is what ex-NASA geniuses do in their spare time-bottle rockets and rubik’s cubes. Not too bad. These guys are super passionate about rowing and have made it their job to give fellow athletes the chance to carry out ideas and create products to excel in their sport. We love the innovation.
