We give Holiday Matinee a lot of attention but the truth is they deserve every bit of it. Right now they’re getting an amazing amount of attention, globally, on the release of their new Book titled, I Swear to Good You Are God at This. Today marks the official release of the book and to celebrate, HM is throwing a mad crazy book release party at Bar Basic in East village. No one is really quite sure what to expect but we know two things for sure, (1) our very own Graham Downes will be MCing the event and (2) it’s sure to be “awesome.” (HM’s favorite word). So please do us a favor, do HM a favor, more importantly do yourself a favor and check out a preview of the book right here and for goodness sake RSVP for tonight’s party because if you miss it, you will likely carry the regret for the rest of your life.
We already know theHIVE has a high concentration of talent. A few of our own are going to show it off this weekend at Thread Show San Diego on the Wonderbread Factory. LouLou Bijoux, HomeEc and Holiday Matinee will be present, exhibiting their products as three of San Diego’s top 100 independent designers. The show runs 11-4 Saturday and Sunday, fusing fashion, environment and a mix of all things hip from wine-tasting to art displays. Swing by and see what all the fuss is about.

Our friends at El Dorado Cocktail Lounge will be unveiling their fall/winter cocktail menu tonight at $5 a piece. That’s right, five bucks! Whoa! I walked into theHive this morning and thought for a second that i was in the wrong place! TheHive has been totally transformed into a gallery space for tonight’s local art & music event hosted by The Collaboratory! Artists & musicians from all over San Diego have spent the last few days collaborating to convert TheHive to accommodate for live music & 200+ works of art. The event starts at eight PM, we’ll see you there!
Hello coffee! Starting November 6th TheHIVE will be hosting Friday Morning Brew serving complimentary coffee from Café Virtuoso between 7:30 and 9:30AM. It will be good chance to get to know some of our East Village neighbors before finishing out that last workday of the week. Come hang out with us this Friday for your morning dose of caffeine and a little bit of analogue social networking.
Chris Cantore just moved into theHIVE and he brought with him ‘Legit Radio.’ It’s a brand new and 100% independent internet radio station for those of you who are sick of listening to lame music and commercial jingles every 5 minutes. Today is extra special because, HIVE tenant, Dave Brown from Holiday Matinee is launching, “KEEP IT LIKE A SECRET, a weekly online radio show that dishes out indie jams and creative inspiration.” He’ll be broadcasting all over the interwebs between 11Am and 12PM PST and he’ll be taking requests and shout outs via tweet @holidaymatinee. Last night theHIVE hosted AIGA’s NoGo Logo event to award prizes to designer’s logos that were not selected by clients. It was great to see the creative products from the city’s designers and mingle with the innovative. Check out these shots we snapped from the festivities.
This Thursday, theHIVE will be hosting AIGA’s NOGO-LOGO event where graphic designers submit logos that were presented to clients and were not selected. The event is open to the public so come sip a cocktail and check out the creative products from San Diego’s design community. The winner will recieve $100 and bragging rights.We’ll see you there.
