5 Signs that Coworking might be for You

November 22nd, 2010 | Simon | No Comments »

Since the inception of the term in 2005, coworking has increasingly become the ideal choice for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and others for whom neither the home/coffee shop nor the traditional office space works. Here are five signs that you may want to join the party:

1. You often forget to shower during the workweek.

If at least to have an excuse to shower, it really is nice to just get out of the house once in a while lest it drive you crazy.

2. You hate networking events, but you need a network.

A more organic way to connect with others professionally, coworking naturally introduces you to a network of professionals that you can develop meaningful relationships by working alongside.

3. You are not an expert in everything.

…but chances are, within an office of people, you are likely to find a host of experts on various topics.

4. You have gotten in a fight over a cafe electrical outlet.

As a long-term, regular work place, cafes can offer many problems, ranging from distractions to fighting for space to the inconvenience of a nomadic work setup. Coworking offers a stable environment conducive to productivity.

5. You meet with clients in the kitchen.

Meeting at a coworking space’s conference room communicates your professionalism to your client.

Can the world exist without money?

Calling all Hivers. Check this dude. His name is Seth Priebatsch. He’s an artist of sorts, just like all y’all Hivers and his creation is called, Scvngr. He may be taking over the world, and it seems as though this conquest began from an early onset. His idea – to turn the world into a fun game. On September 18th, the New York Times, published an article announcing Seth Priebatsch’s vision to establish another layer within the social media realm, that pushes its members to challenge themselves in new and different ways. It’s called Scvngr, and it’s a bit like foursquare. By utilizing the technology of geo-location, your location will be announced to others as a means to challenge and engage with others. The point is you want to be the coolest. The point is you want to be doing the coolest things. The point is, you want to win. This idea chronicles the direction society is headed within the technology world. The possibilities of where it could lead are astronomical – there’s the chance it could wipe out all the people not part of the social media world, and then there’s the chance it could simply wipe out the economical value system all together, and the world could be based off the value of the individual’s direct contribution in the world, society, and with him/her own self. Yes, I may be getting a bit carried away here, but can’t a girl dream? What do you think?

Thunder and Lightning oh my!

September 30th, 2010 | HIVEr | No Comments »

It ain’t that sunny today in San Diego. Seems as though the weather has taken a spin on this city, and the rain, thunder and lightning is hitting the streets. It’s not that often we get to smell this rainy-fresh-air. The ominous sky is actually rather tranquil as well. Or it’s always possible, that the apocalypse is coming. Take your pick, but make sure you grab your rain jackets if your headed out on the town tonight, or it could just be movie night.

HM’s “This is Charlotte King”

Check it. One of our Hivers, Holiday Matinee teamed up with Sezio, Breadtruck films and Jeffrey Durkin to create a short film for Ford. The film will be screening this weekend at the San Diego Film Festival so don’t miss it! The film brings me back to the simplicity of life. It’s almost as if a San Diego warm breeze is tickling my skin to remind me to smile and bask in the wonderful weather of life. Yes, I’m a bit corny, but after watching it, you’ll know what I mean, at least I hope so.
